About the role
As a Production Operator working in Nyrstar Hobart's Wharf team. Your role is critical in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our plant and equipment. Your contribution isn't just important; it's essential to meeting and surpassing our production targets. We're on a mission to set the benchmark in cost-effectiveness, safety, environmental stewardship, quality, and output rates, and your role will be at the forefront of that mission.
You will be responsible for:
- Operating Front End loaders to create a homogeneous mix that meets Transportable Moisture Limit (TML) requirements for shipping, as mandated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
- Mixing wet PG cakes with Quicklime, ETUF with LSLC, and quicklime as per site demands to ensure seamless production processes.
- Adhering to Nyrstar's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain consistent and compliant operations.
- Wearing provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure a secure working environment.
- Conducting business in accordance with Nyrstar's Values of Respect, Excellence, Teamwork, Integrity, and Ownership.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- 2 - 5 Years experience in Front End Loader Operations
- Ability to work a 12 hour rotating shift pattern, 2 x day shift, 2 x night shift, 4 days off
- Functional Capacity to meet the physical demands of the work, including but not limited to: safe manual handling; stair and ladder work; exposure to uneven floor surfaces with slip/trip hazards; working at heights; and exposure to loud and sudden noise.
- Aptitude to obtain and relate knowledge of process, equipment and production techniques
- High-level communication skills, with a proven ability to work satisfactorily with minimal supervision.
- Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships
- Excellent safety, health and environmental awareness.
- Willingness to accept responsibility, and accountability for high performance standards.

Nyrstar Hobart is a large scale zinc smelter located on Hobart's River Derwent, only a few kilometres from the Tasmanian capital's charming and cosmopolitan city centre. The facility uses the RLE process for zinc production. Hobart's key products are SHG zinc, die cast alloys and continuous galvanising grad (CGG) alloys. In addition, the site produces by-products of cadmium, copper sulphate, paragoethite, lead sulphate, leach concentrate and sulphuric acid.
This is a rare opportunity to work on site in the resources industry, in a capital city location.
