About Our Role
Simplot Australia are seeking applications for the casual positions of Production Operator, Forklift Operator & Heavy-Rigid truck driver for opportunities at our Devonport frozen vegetable processing facility.
The site processes vegetables including peas, beans, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and onions that are grown by our local Tasmanian growers. The close proximity to our growers assists in ensuring that the vegetables are blanched, snap frozen and packed soon after being harvested at their peak. Simplot Devonport is the last producer of scale of frozen vegetables in Australia
Commencing asap and working in conjunction with our production teams (processing, packing, logistics) - these critical roles will involve safe operations of fixed plant processing equipment (Production Operators), counterbalance forklifts & Heavy Rigid vehicles across a variety of 8 hour shifts (day / afternoon / night) over a 7 day roster. Our state of the art processing equipment, and modern fleet of both gas and electric forklifts are regularly maintained and kept in premium operating condition by our maintenance teams. Please note that a number of these forklift operating roles will be required to work within our cold store (appropriate PPE provided)
We would love to hear from those candidates who have prior experience in food processing, packing or with demonstrated forklift experience (high reach forklift experience and a HR truck licence would be advantageous). What You Will Do
Production Operators
- Work within our process or packing teams on the intake, inspection / quality control, processing and packing of freshly harvested local Tasmanian vegetables (certain crops have to be processed, snap frozen and packed fresh within 5 hours of harvest!)
- Operate a variety of fixed plant processing equipment incl; colour sorters, blanchers (steamers), freezer tunnels, scales, conveyors, dicing equipment & high speed packaging equipment (training provided)
- Adhere to site safety and operational policies whilst contributing to continuous improvement within our processes
Forklift Operators
- Safely transport processed frozen product between our production areas
- Use of fork mounted RF systems + radio communications
- Operate within our cold store / freezer stacking the bins of frozen product to a level of 7 racks high and 2 bins deep (reach truck operators only)
- Perform pre-start checks on forklift equipment
- Changing of & charging spent batteries (for electric forklifts)
- Adhere to site safety and operational policies whilst contributing to continuous improvement within our processes
Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Drivers
- In addition to the above forklift duties, those candidates with a heavy rigid (HR) truck licence will also be required to transport frozen product between our cold store facilities across the NW coast in our heavy rigid freezer vehicle (incl. loading and unloading)
About You
- Possess a 100% commitment to health, safety and wellbeing within the workplace
- Hold a current forklift LF licence and a high level of competency supported by demonstrated experience (daily forklift operations)
- HR truck licence would be advantageous
- A willingness & ability to work across a variety of day / afternoon / night 8 hour shifts (Mon-Sun) - mandatory
- Intermediate level of technical capability to operate our forklift mounted RF screen
- Possess positive communication skills
- Willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical (incl. urine based drug & alcohol screening)
