Program Cost Controller

About the role

As the Program Cost Controller, you are integral to the success of V/Line's Asset Management Coordination Team. You will be a valuable team member of the Major Periodic Maintenance (MPM) Program and accountable to the Senior Program Cost Controller.

Your main responsibilities will include providing effective cost control for the MPM Program, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to provide cost performance analysis, and supporting the Senior Program Cost Controller with monitoring and managing of cost control functions including monthly status reports, variations, change requests, cost management/monitoring, financial KPIs and cost overruns.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Providing cost control support to the Senior Program Cost Controller and Program Manager including, but not limited to, project forecasting, earned value analysis, PO/invoice/claim verification, collection of and assessment of accrual information and respective finance interface.
  • Assisting in generating cost performance reports on projects and program.
  • Supporting delivery of the annual financial budget cycle and monthly forecasting.
  • Monitoring financial performance and ensuing projects maintain a healthy cash flow throughout the life of a project.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders on regular basis for input to the monthly cost forecast process.
  • Maintaining Project Controls System to ensure data integrity and accurate reporting is provided in a timely manner.
  • Change Management and facilitating the Program Change Control Group (PCCG).

About you

To thrive in this position, a proactive attitude and an analytical mindset are essential attributes for success. You will have at least three years of previous experience in a similar role and demonstrate a strong ability to maintain quality when working to deadlines in a fast-paced and changing environment.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Understanding and application of project cost management principles thorough understanding of cost control, planning, scheduling, and the principles of earned value management.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong cost data analysis and communications skills
  • Proactive stakeholder engagement
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Intermediate level of computer literacy including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and reporting systems such as Power BI, Tableau, and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Demonstrated alignment to V/Line's values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.

Desirable

  • Degree qualification in Business, Commerce, Project Management, Engineering, or equivalent cost/financial controlling experience
  • Rail/infrastructure knowledge and experience
  • Experience with JDEdwards

Remuneration for this position is upwards of $95,136 inclusive of superannuation. We are happy to discuss salary expectations in line with skills, experience and overall suitability to the role.
