Job description

Disability Rights Advocacy Service (DRAS) are recruiting for the position of Program Facilitator, for the Individual Capacity Building Program commencing on 1 July 2024.

Disability Rights Advocacy Service (DRAS)

DRAS is part of the national network of Disability Advocacy Services funded by the Australian Government.  DRAS provides individual and systemic advocacy support for people with disabilities, their families and their carers.  DRAS operates from offices in Adelaide, Berri, Mount Gambier and will be opening an office in Port Augusta as part of this program.  From July 1 DRAS will also be delivering a community legal service, through DRAS Legal, to people with lived experience of disability.  

Job Title and Role
The successful applicants will be employed as a Program Facilitator, working under the supervision of a Team Leader.  The role is based in Port Augusta.  The Program Facilitator will be responsible for the delivery of the funded Individual Capacity Building Program to people with lived experience of disability, their families and carers in the Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Whyalla and Roxby Downs area.    

ICB Program

Under the general direction of the Team Leader the ICB Program Facilitators will undertake a broad range of duties relating to the creation and delivery of programs and resources to support the rights of people with lived experience of disability, their families and carers and increase knowledge to enable program participants to self-advocate and build capacity. This includes, but is not limited to, community engagement, workshops, stakeholder identification and engagement, peer mentoring and the identification and creation of resource material.  

Salary

A contract will be offered to the successful candidate for three years from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2027, commencing at SCHADS Award Level 3.1.

Hours

Hours of work are 75 hours per ten-day fortnight , Monday to Friday with a bandwidth of hours between 8.00am and 6.00pm.  This is an office-based role with no capacity to work from home. 

Essential Requirements

Ability to identify the needs of people with disability, their families and carers and determine what information or resources are required to support those needs and build capacity.

Ability to identify, develop and maintain constructive relationships with key stakeholders.

Good understanding of the agencies and services for people with disability in the rural and regional areas. 

Ability to coordinate, manage and address public meetings.  

Capable of working independently as well as part of a team.

High level written and oral communication skills.

Sound computer skills.

The successful applicant will be required to have a Working with Children and Working with Vulnerable Persons clearance prior to commencing employment. 

Current Australian issued Driver's Licence (equivalent to a minimum class C South Australian Licence)

Ability to travel intra-state to facilitate the delivery of the ICB Program in the Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Whyalla and Roxby Downs area.
