Luerssen Australia was established in 2018 to commence construction of 12 Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Royal Australian Navy over a 12 year period. We work closely with our customer and stakeholders to deliver excellence in service.

The Role

The Project Buyer defines detailed plans and objectives for each project as per the organisation and business unit purchasing strategies. Besides undertaking benchmarking and updating activity and project progress, strategic buyers also control the supply chain actions and supply chain risks to keep the supply chain secure.

Project Buyers are responsible for negotiating favourable, effective, and precise terms and conditions as per the required standards and rules. Project Buyers control the projects' risks and create an effective action plan to achieve all project objectives in relation to procurement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the implementation of essential procurement initiatives to increase quality of technology while minimising cost and timing.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to gather current requirements and specifications.
  • Analyse forecasts and usage, applying knowledge of the company's products and business objectives for sound procurement decisions.
  • Develop long-range strategies in key commodities in an effort to ensure operational stability.
  • Plan and execute all production order activity utilizing ERP system.
  • Work towards creating greater transparency and communication with multiple departments and suppliers to achieve production requirements.
  • Analyse all suppliers in order to select the most suitable suppliers.
  • Negotiate with suppliers on lead-time, cost and quality so as to obtain the maximum benefit for Luerssen Australia.
  • Develop purchasing or sourcing strategies based on portfolio analyses and supplier referencing study.
  • Perform regular performance review with suppliers to drive continuous improvements.
  • Ensure commercial, legal and contractual compliances in all the procurement transactions.
  • Organising inspections as required for the purchase orders placed, and dealing with any non-conformances.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8 years in a similar role
  • Problem solver with high sense of responsibility to achieve results.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Word and Excel
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Problem solving abilities.
  • Able to understand schedule and systems
  • Proven self-time-management skills, and ability to prioritise works under competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procurement and contract procedures and systems.
