About the Role
We have a great opportunity for a motivated and passionate ecologist to join our team in Sydney, on a casual basis. This role will suit a graduate or junior ecologist that is looking to gain entry into ecological consulting.
To be successful in this role you must have a self-driven interest in ecology and passion to grow your ecological knowledge. You must be able to work in the field independently and be comfortable liaising with clients face-to-face. You must have your own car and the ability to work from home.
Key Responsibilities:
Conducting ecological assessment prior to the removal of vegetation and fauna habitat, including:
- Identifying and demarcating threatened plants and habitat for threatened fauna.
- Identifying priority weeds.
- Use of a GPS-enabled tablet.
- Preparing pre-clearing and post-clearing reports.
You will also be required to be present during vegetation/ habitat clearing to catch and relocate any fauna displaced by the clearing activities.
Required Skills:
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of NSW flora and fauna.
- Animal handling experience.
- Field experience- comfortable working in a range of sites from urban areas to national parks.
- Report writing- capable of producing accurate and professional reports.
- Drivers' licence (with no conditions).
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal).
- GIS experience (preferred, not essential).
Experience and Qualifications
You must be comfortable working long hours in the field, including trips away either solo or with a colleague, for up to five days. Ideal candidates will have experience driving a 4WD off road.
You must have a tertiary degree in Environmental Science (or a related discipline). You must also have your first aid and Construction White Card.
Willingness to be put through additional training courses.
