The Opportunity
Working as part of the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) team, you will support the development of our next generation scientific data management systems to make a tangible difference to outcomes for the marine environment. Be part of these exciting new developments that will provide a step change advancement in the way the marine science community, the general public and other users access data to derive environmental, economic and social benefits.
In this role, you will:
  • Support the development and operation of data management systems for the ingestion, processing and delivery of high-volume heterogenous data
  • Contribute to the development of value-added data products
  • Collaborate with team members and external stakeholders to ensure appropriate data flow, coordination, and ingestion of marine data from the ocean to the cloud.
What you will need to succeed
To be successful in this exciting role, you will be:
  • Skilled in Python and/or Matlab/R for the processing and analysis of datasets
  • Experienced in geospatial data management including data and metadata file formats and standards
  • Experience in the development of data products
  • Able to collaborate closely with team members, internal and external stakeholders and communicate with users.

Appointment to this role will attract a base salary starting from $96,071 plus 17% superannuation. The position is covered by the UTAS 2021 - 2025 Staff Agreement.
The salary offer will be commensurate with relevant skills and experience. Flexible working arrangements including work from home and reduced hours are available. About the University & the Integrated Marine Observing System
The University of Tasmania is building a vision of a place-based University with a mission to enhance the intellectual, economic, social, and cultural future of Tasmania, and from Tasmania, contribute to the world in areas of distinctive advantage.
IMOS is a national collaborative research infrastructure, supported by the Australian Government. It is operated as an unincorporated joint venture (UJV), with the University of Tasmania as Lead Agent. IMOS provides a national, multi-institutional capability to undertake systematic and sustained observing of the marine environment, from the open ocean onto the continental shelf and into the coast, and across physical, chemical and biological variables. IMOS is implemented through a national portfolio of over 60 platform and technology-based Facilities.
The Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) is responsible for the management of IMOS data and provides open online access to these data.
