The Traveller Capability Platforms (TCP) Section designs, develops and implements application solutions to enable travellers to safely cross Australian International borders. We do this by leveraging industry supported technologies, through well established strategic industry partnerships.
TCP delivers high quality and accessible technologies comprising of hardware (IDEMIA Gen3 SmartGates and Kiosks) and software (Border Clearance Solution (BCS)) for the identification and verification of travellers across Australian borders. These technologies enable the Australian Border Force (ABF) to manage and secure our borders.
Our ideal candidate
- The Project Officer is accountable for day-to-day ICT project functions such as resourcing, scheduling, prioritisation and task coordination
- They are responsible for meeting project milestones, objectives and deliverables within agreed time frames and budgets, using correct methodologies in the process
- The Project Officer ensures effective project delivery and prevention of potential issues by implementing well thought out risk management and contingency plans
- The Project Officer you utilises knowledge of the systems they are working with, and their stakeholder relationships and networks, to constantly keep the project on track throughout its lifecycle, using their expertise to promptly resolve or ppropriately escalate issues as they arise
- The Project Officer also plans for and undertakes the successful transition and/or closure of services.
Duties and responsibilities
- Conduct project planning and scheduling activities for ICT Projects including identifying and setting milestones, dependencies, critical path and transition into service
- Conduct ongoing project delivery and performance activities including tracking performance against milestones, budget, resource allocation and benefits realisation
- Undertake and provide ongoing monitoring of project finances ensuring targets are met and escalating deviations from agreed tolerances
- Establish, build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the ICT Division, business and operational areas, internally and externally
- Assist with planning, coordinating and running meetings and provide secretariat responsibilities or functions as required.
Additional information
Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a Project Officer or similar project role with:
- Enterprise Project Management System (EPMS) knowledge, or the ability to develop
- Proven experience using collaboration tools, such as SharePoint, Jira, Azure DevOps, etc.
- Proven experience with using Microsoft Office Suite including MS Project
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-developed negotiation, conflict management and resolution skills
- Proven experience writing and maintaining project artefacts like RACI, Risks and Issues registers.
Demonstrated ability in using contemporary project management frameworks including, but not limited to:
- PRINCE2 (Practitioner) certification
- PRINCE2 Agile and/or AGILE PM
- MSP
- ITIL (Foundation)
- Waterfall
- PMBOK
- MOP
- Exposure to Agile practices such as Extreme Programming (XP) techniques e.g. Test Driven Development (TDD).
- Exposure to Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) across the SDLC
Ability to coach, develop and empower individuals in emotional intelligence;
- How to handle and resolve conflict
- How to give constructive feedback to form a high performing, self-organising teams.

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
