Wandiyali is a Newcastle-based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisation. Our services operate throughout Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hunter Region and Port Stephens.

Each year Wandiyali assists hundreds of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members through the delivery of its many services.

The aim of Wandiyali and its services is to ‘Keep our Culture Strong’. We do this by focusing our services on children, families, strength, culture and community.

As a Wandi Caseworker Coordinator, you will manage a small team plus you will be provided with regular professional supervision, ongoing training, and opportunities for career advancement.

  • A commitment to the Vision, Mission, and Values of our organisation
  • Identifies as Aboriginal or/and Torres Strait Islander or have proven knowledge and

experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the community.

  • Relevant qualifications and experience working with Children and Young People in the

statutory care system.

  • Demonstrated capacity for self-management, which includes accepting responsibility for

own actions; focuses on the most important goals; has a realistic and balanced view of own

strengths and development opportunities; recognises own feelings and personal prejudices

and understands why they occur.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and working understanding of the current child protection

service system, policy and practice and the needs of children in OOHC, including knowledge

of:

      • Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998
      • Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998
      • Ombudsman Act 1974 (Amendment)
      • Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998
      • Adoption of Children Act 2000
      • UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
      • NSW Standards for Statutory Out-of-Home Care, guidelines, and accreditation requirements
  • Experience in the supervision of case work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, children, and young people.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the developmental needs of children and young people, families and parents and a comprehensive understanding of key risk factors of trauma on childhood development.
  • Experience in the provision of individual and group supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own time and support your team to achieve identified goals and objectives in a required timeframe.
  • Intermediate level of computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise, advocate with and maintain positive working relationships with relevant government and non- government professionals, community groups, services, and agencies.
  • Demonstrated high level of skill in preparation of essential care documents including, case plans, cultural plans, leaving care plans, court documents, ACA applications and related documentation, relating to the PSP OOHC sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage reporting requirements with required timeframes, internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated high level of skill in interpersonal communication including conflict resolution and negotiation.
  • The ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with other services in our community and attend local network events.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate positively in teamwork, training, and supervision processes.
  • Proven effective written and verbal communication skills.
