About the role
The Psychologist position provides psychological assessment and intervention to patients of the Prison Mental Health Service (PMHS). The PMHS provides voluntary assessment, treatment, and continuity of care for persons in correctional centres who have or may have a mental illness, including diversion of mentally ill offenders from the criminal justice system as required. Psychological services are delivered as part of a multidisciplinary team including nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, and occupational therapists.
This position may be required to provide psychological services to correctional centres between the hours of 8am and 4.30pm on weekends.

About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated ability to provide psychological assessment, formulation, and treatment skills taking into consideration developmental, cognitive, psychological, and offending behaviour factors. Such assessment involves the application of standardised psychology tools as well as clinical judgement to inform all stages of patients' treatment including diagnosis, conceptualisation, formulation, intervention, and risk management.
- Demonstrated working knowledge or ability to acquire a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2016.
- Demonstrated ability to provide verbal and written communication skills including ability to summarise clinical presentations, provide consultation, advice, and recommendations to members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to provide interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills including the ability to negotiate and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders. This includes demonstrated skills and ability in the development and maintenance of collaborative partnerships at the individual, agency and intersectoral levels.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous service improvement through participating in quality improvement and research activities.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
- General registration or eligibility for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia is mandatory (National Accreditation and Regulation Law 2009).
