Who are we?

The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) is the peak representative body of the state’s minerals and energy sector. The Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) is the education arm of QRC.

The QMEA network consists of 100 secondary schools and provides a range of experiences to thousands of students annually to raise their awareness of the resources sector and associated career pathways. Programs range in-school day workshops range in length from 1 lesson to 1 day, and QMEA’s flagship programs linked to STEM and Trade/Vocational pathways run from 2 to 6 days in length, along with longer-term projects.
 


About the role

No two days are the same as you visit schools in regional Queensland to deliver STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in-school workshops, activities and presentations that engage high school students with the variety of STEM pathways that exist into the resources sector. Your experience in the use of digital technologies to support this role will be highly regarded.

Based in Brisbane, you’ll work alongside a team of presenters who engaged with approximately 5,500 students, 420 teachers and 375 industry personnel during 2023 in delivering QMEA workshop and experiences across the state.

The workshops, activities, presentations (both face-to-face and virtual) and camps that you will be organising and delivering complement the Australian curriculum and importantly, the skill needs of the resources sector. 

About the person

Our ideal candidate should have a minimum 2 years’ experience in STEM education (or equivalent through other employment), with the ability to engage with school students in year levels from 7 to 12 (preferably in science and technology fields). As a highly organised, vibrant and enthusiastic presenter, the candidate will be required to have a demonstrated ability or the capability to work successfully in a high performing team.


QMEA’s success lies in the partnerships it forms between schools and resources sector employers, so you’ll also be able to demonstrate the ability or capacity to successfully build and maintain strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders including, but not limited to, schools and industry.

Skills & Attributes

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in STEM education (or equivalent through other employment)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation and organisational skills
  • An interest in the use of digital technologies tools such as Lego robotics, drones and Arduino programming
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex activities over time and distance
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and contribute to a positive working environment 
  • An interest in the resources sector and awareness of current issues
  • Current holder of a Queensland Blue Card/Exemption Card or the capacity to secure Blue Card authorisation
