Form of workThe Queensland Auditor-General serves as an officer of Parliament, providing independent assurance to the Parliament of Queensland through the presentation of financial and performance audit reports. As the accountable officer for the Queensland Audit Office (QAO), the Auditor-General ensures its operations are efficient, effective, and economical.
The QAO, as Parliament’s independent auditor, scrutinises state public sector entities and local governments, embodying a pillar of integrity by offering independent, world-class audit and assurance services to these entities on behalf of Parliament and the people of Queensland.
Charged with specific responsibilities under the Auditor-General Act, and managing a large and diverse workforce, the Auditor-General spearheads the QAO’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and integrity. This is achieved by establishing best practice guidelines that align with the dynamic nature of the public sector. The key responsibilities include:
- Setting the strategic direction, priorities, and standards for the QAO.
- Delivering reports and recommendations to Parliament to enhance the accountability and performance of the Queensland Public Sector.
- Ensuring high performance and aligning capabilities to meet the standards and objectives of service delivery.
- Developing and implementing the strategic audit plan in consultation with relevant entities and the parliamentary committee.
- Providing independent audit opinions of consolidated whole-of-government financial statements.
- Liaising and consulting with parliamentary committees and Ministers as needed.
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced leader in Audit and Assurance, with relevant qualifications and a profound understanding of the legislation, standards, and regulatory requirements pertinent to government and associated constitutional and parliamentary processes. As a strategic leader of exemplary reputation, you will have demonstrated leadership in complex and challenging environments, exhibiting courage in decision-making and the capacity to act decisively.
