Job description

IRONMAN Group is the global industry leader in the delivery of mass participation event experiences.  IRONMAN Oceania develops, owns, and manages mass participation triathlon, running, and multi-sport events throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The Role:

We're looking for an experienced, passionate and motivated Race Director/Event Organiserto join our team, based in our Melbourne office.

This role requires a unique mix of experience and skill in event operations, project management, leadership and stakeholder engagement.

The Race Director is responsible for the overall event planning, delivery, and review of events in addition to a long term focus on event experience evolution, innovation, and development.  

As part of the Operations function, the Race Director has a core focus on the delivery of safe & compliant events, operational efficiency, experience planning & delivery, community & stakeholder engagement, innovation & event development, sustainability, and financial management. 

This particular Race Director position will be largely responsible for leading the planning and delivery for events including IRONMAN Australia and IRONMAN Western Australia.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations & Project Management

  • Create and manage event timelines, milestones, and progress reporting
  • Developing Operational documentation for each event
  • Managing supplier and contractor requirements 
  • Lead planning and delivery of event transport, equipment & logistics 
  • Develop and implement signage & branding plans.

Financial Management

  • Manage the overall event budget and manage costs in line with budget, through smart spending decisions. 

Health, Safety, Risk & Compliance

  • Plan and deliver safe events using appropriate WHS and Risk Management systems and processes.
  • Prepare, update, communicate & manage HS&R documentation.

Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Effectively & regularly work with councils, communities and other stakeholders to ensure on-going support for events.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in the Event’s industry
  • A tertiary qualification in Event Management, or similar (significant event industry experience may be considered to replace tertiary qualification)
  • Prior Race Director/Event Organiser experience desirable (involving large scale and complex events)
  • Experience managing H&S compliance 
  • Financial skills and budget management
  • Community & stakeholder engagement and consultation experience
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Valid Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain one)
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience desirable
  • Forklift & Scooter License desirable
  • Able to work weekends at event time and travel interstate.
