Racial Equity and Inclusion Manager
Switchboard Victoria is based on the lands of the Yaluk-ut Weelam clan of the Boon Wurrung peoples.

About Switchboard Victoria (Inc.)
Switchboard Victoria is a community-based, not for profit organisation that provides peer-based, volunteer driven support services for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and gender diverse, Intersex, Queer, Asexual and more (LGBTIQA+) people and their friends, families and allies.
Our current activities include:
  • Phone and web counselling and referral – Switchboard is the Victorian partner in the national Qlife service. QLife provides anonymous and free LGBTIQA+ peer support and referral for people in Australia wanting to talk about sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings, or relationships.
  • Community connections for older LGBTI people – Switchboard’s Out & About program aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness through creating friendship and connection between LGBTI seniors living anywhere in Victoria and peer volunteer visitors.
  • Rainbow Door - is a free specialist LGBTIQA+ helpline providing information, support, and referral to all LGBTIQA+ Victorians, their friends and family. Rainbow Door supports people of all ages and identities with issues that may include suicidal thoughts, family, and intimate partner violence (including elder abuse), alcohol and other drugs, relationship issues, sexual assault, social isolation, mental health and wellbeing.
  • Suicide prevention - research and development of suicide prevention resources and programs for LGBTIQA+ communities.
  • QTIBPoC Programs - The QTIBPoC programs aim to build greater equity for Queer, Trans, Intersex and Bla(c)k, Indigenous and/or People of Colour and People of Faith. In consultation with key stakeholders, Switchboard’s QTIBPoC Programs will build internal capacity to meet QTIBPoC community needs and extend into targeted services.
  • Training Program – Switchboard delivers a range of training to the community and service sector organisations. Trainings offerings include LGBTIQA+ Inclusive Practice, How to Recognise and Respond to F/IPV, How to Talk About Suicide Safely, Everyday Racism in the Workplace and Peer Support Training. Staff are accredited to deliver LivingWorks programs ASIST and safeTALK.
  • Rainbow Families - Connecting and supporting LGBTIQA+ parents, carers, and their families. Supporting services to develop and deliver rainbow family-inclusive better practice across Victoria.
Position details
  • Employment type - 0.8 EFT, 30.4 hours/week
  • Classification & remuneration - Social and Community Services Employee, Level 7 Pay Point 1 to 3 based on qualifications and experience to be confirmed as per the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010. Tax benefit available from salary sacrifice, package of up to $15,899.

Position overview
Play a leadership role in leading the anti-racism work within Switchboard and managing the QTIBPoC program aimed at improving the mental health and wellbeing of Queer, Trans, Intersex and Bla(c)k and/or People of Colour (QTIBPoC) in Victoria.
Anti-racism is a priority within Switchboard’s efforts in creating an environment that is safe and inclusive for QTIBPoC staff, volunteers, Board members and those who use our services. The upcoming launch of our Anti-Racism Organisational Change plan illustrates our commitment and the actions we will taking, being led by the Racial Equity and Inclusion Manager.
Our QTIBPoC communities are a priority population for Switchboard Victoria’s program development and delivery, and across the organisation. This role combines development and delivery of targeted programs with providing advice and building organisational capacity (CEO and other leadership) to ensure our programs and activities effectively address the mental health and wellbeing of QTIBPoC communities who need and use Switchboard services, in line with our strategic priorities.
Queer, Trans, Intersex and Bla(c)k and/or People of Colour are encouraged to apply. Lived experience and community work — including volunteer work — will be highly valued in selection of the successful applicant, along with professional skills, knowledge and experience.
About the successful candidate
To be successful in this role, you will have experience leading organisational change, working in (or closely with) the community and/or in one or more relevant government sectors. You will have a strong understanding of what it means to take an anti-racist and intersectional approach and demonstrated knowledge relevant to the unique needs of QTIBPoC. Lived experience as LGBTIQA+ and as a person of colour and/or migrant and/or refugee would be a strong advantage in achieving success.
You will have worked with diverse stakeholders in a range of contexts and have excellent relationship management skills including understanding the complexities of working within diverse communities to address community needs. The role requires skills in critical thinking, policy, research and analysis, plus skills in project management, and ideally project development and delivery.

Key responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Strategic Planning
  • Lead the ongoing anti-racism initiatives and actions outlined in the AROC plan and development of a QTIBPoC Programs Strategy aligned to Switchboard’s strategic priorities, including to support implementation of Switchboard’s commitment to QTIBPoC communities as a priority population across our programs and activities
  • Establish an action plan to bring the QTIBPoC Programs Strategy to life in collaboration with Switchboard colleagues, partners and stakeholders
  • Work with the QTIBPoC advisory board sub-committee i.e. be a member of the committee, contribute to discussions, assist in the delivery of initiatives and evaluate activities.
Service Improvement and Capacity Building
  • Play a key advisory and capacity building role in relation to service delivery and improvement opportunities relevant as to QTIBPoC community needs across programs and activities, including providing input, and support as needed into:
  • systems for and implementation of data collection, analysis and reporting
  • human resource and volunteer management, including recruitment and training
  • approaches to community outreach, communication, research, advocacy, partnership, stakeholder management, media, marketing and governance, and other aspects of Switchboard’s capacity, approach, planning and activities as needed.
  • Support ongoing internal capacity building activities to ensure our programs and activities are effectively addressing the needs of QTIBPoC communities who need and use our services. This could include, for example, advising on and/or delivery of staff and volunteer training, key practice resources, input into program review and evaluations etc.
Partnership and Communications
  • Map and build on Switchboard’s relationships with QTIBPoC and key multicultural and community-specific organisations.
  • Provide actionable advice and support as required in relation to Switchboard’s communications strategy and stakeholder engagement plan.
  • Engage, consult and communicate with relevant community members, organisations, government bodies and other stakeholders.
QTIBPoC Targeted Program Development and Establishment
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for Switchboard to partner with community-based organisations to deliver peer-based support services to targeted QTIBPoC populations whom Switchboard is well placed to support.
  • Continue developing and establishing peer-based support programs for targeted QTIBPoC populations e.g. First Nations, international students and asylum seekers, identified through consultation as potential suitable target populations.
Key Selection criteria
Essential
  • Applicant must identify as part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender diverse, Intersex, asexual (LGBTIQA+) [Switchboard Victoria has an exemption under the Equal Employment].
  • Experience leading organisational change and working in, or closely within, community and/or government sectors, ideally on Equity and social justice policy issues.
  • A strong understanding of what it means to take an anti-racist and intersectional approach to every aspect of your work, and a demonstrated knowledge relevant to the unique needs of QTIBPoC.
  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders, including engaging with diverse groups and organisations, such as LGBTIQA+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the complexities of working with community to address community needs, including consulting and partnering with diverse communities in a respectful and sustainable way.
  • Substantial critical thinking, policy, research and analytical skills and experience in providing information, guidance and advice to decision makers and others.
  • Project Management skills including managing multiple projects, identifying and prioritising tasks, planning and developing timelines, and anticipating and adjusting for potential barriers and problems.
  • Project development skills, including establishing and managing partnerships, gathering evidence, community co-design of wellbeing programs and design or coordination of processes for consultation, measurement, evaluation and reporting.
  • Commitment to Switchboard’s purpose, vision, values and principles, including Equity and the importance of taking an intersectional approach.
Desirable
  • Lived experience as a LGBTIQA+ person and as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, person of colour and/or migrant and/or refugee.
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to use storytelling and different mediums to translate complex information into plain language and actionable strategies.
  • Oral presentation skills, especially in distilling and conveying key messages to different audiences.
