About the roleThe Ramp Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating ground operations at the airport. This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe movement of aircraft, passengers, and cargo on the ramp area. The Ramp Supervisor collaborates closely with various stakeholders, including ground handling teams, airline personnel, and other airport staff to maintain operational excellence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Safety
- Hold, promote and demonstrate safety as a core value and lead in driving the organisation toward its vision of Zero Harm and an incident / injury free environment through active support of and participation in, all safety programs
- Actively support and promote the organisation’s Safety Management System by ensuring staff comply with the Safety Management System processes and procedures, providing appropriate direction and resources and by monitoring safety activities and performance
- Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective measures to prevent reoccurrences
- Conduct regular inspections of ramp areas, equipment, and facilities to identify and rectify potential safety hazards.
Ramp Operations Management
- Coordinate and supervise ramp activities, including aircraft movement, loading and unloading of cargo, and passenger boarding.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, operating procedures, and security protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Monitor ramp conditions, including weather, lighting, and surface conditions, and take appropriate action to mitigate any potential hazards.
- Allocate resources effectively, such as personnel, equipment, and facilities, to optimize operational efficiency.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Provide guidance and leadership to ramp personnel, ensuring a high level of motivation and adherence to standard operating procedure
- Conduct regular briefings and training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of the ramp team members.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and effective communication among team members.
- Address performance issues promptly and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Liaise with airline representatives, ground handling companies, and other airport departments to ensure smooth operations and efficient turnaround times.
- Communicate effectively with the Control Tower, Air Traffic Control, and other relevant parties to coordinate aircraft movements and prioritize operational needs.
- Handle customer inquiries and complaints related to ramp operations, ensuring timely resolution and customer satisfaction.
Maintain accurate records and reports regarding ramp activities, incidents, and equipment status.
Qualifications (essential and desirable)
- Ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identity Card (ASIC) (Essential)
- Hold or be able to obtain a forklift licence (Essential)
- Hold or be able to obtain a Dangerous Goods acceptance certificate (Essential)
- Ability to hold a relevant airport authority to drive airside license- (Essential)
Experience and Skills
- Previous experience in ramp operations or a related field, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- In-depth knowledge of airport operations, ground handling procedures, and safety regulations.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and software for record-keeping and reporting purposes.
- Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as required by operational demands.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in outdoor environments, often exposed to varying weather conditions.
