Job Description
To support these ambitions, we are looking for a Rangelands Officer to join our Environment & Sustainability team. In this role you will work with the pastoral production team across the company's northern properties to develop industry leading profitable, productive and environmentally sustainable production systems that deliver the finest quality beef that is trusted globally. You will provide technical services to support the sustainable management of our pastoral land through the development of grazing strategies to optimise sustainable production and improve land condition.
This position will play a role in supporting the delivery of AACo's Sustainability Framework by contributing to innovation, research and development relating to continuous improvement in sustainable production, supporting the adoption of new pastoral management technologies within the Barkly region and wider pastoral operations.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical services to support precision management of pastures
  • Development of grazing strategies to optimise sustainable production
  • Contribute to innovation, research and development for continuous improvement in sustainable production
  • Assist with the on ground monitoring, measuring and implementation of Natural Capital projects
  • Supporting the adoption of new pastoral management technologies
  • Working with station management, staff and contractors
  • Carrying out assessment of land condition monitoring sites
  • Working alongside other members of the Sustainability team
  • Support weed management activities and the adoption of new weed management technologies
  • Regular travel to remote locations
Desired Skills and Experience
What we are looking for;
  • Bachelor's degree in Agricultural science/Environmental Science or similar
  • Familiarity with GIS software - strongly desirable
  • Demonstrated knowledge of natural resource management and environmental issues related to the pastoral industry including managing pasture and land condition, weeds, biodiversity, soil health and erosion
  • Sound knowledge of the production and market issues in the cattle industry
  • Ability to effectively engage, influence and build the NRM skills of land managers
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Current manual drivers licence essential and experience at off-road driving
