Kimberley Mineral Sands Pty Ltd (KMS) is a 50/50 joint venture between Sheffield Resources Limited and YGH Australia Investment Pty Ltd (Yansteel). The Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project (Thunderbird) is located mid-way between Derby and Broome, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Thunderbird is one of the largest and highest-grade zircon mineral sands deposits in the world and contains valuable heavy minerals including ilmenite, zircon, leucoxene, and rutile, which are extracted and exported via the Port of Broome.

About the Role
Residing in the West Kimberley, this is an exciting opportunity for a Ranger - Cultural Heritage & Environment to join our growing mining company.
This role will be responsible for supporting the Thunderbird Project to ensure that all work is carried out with consideration of Cultural Heritage and environmental sensitivity, and in compliance with the Co-Existence Agreement between Thunderbird and the Traditional Owners.
Site based roster: 7 days on, 7 days off
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice and support to Thunderbird employees and contractors in understanding culturally significant areas at Thunderbird
- Raise awareness and promote understanding of Aboriginal culture through daily interactions with all employees working at Thunderbird
- Coordinate and supervise on-ground Cultural Heritage and environmental management activities, including conducting heritage walks pre and post land clearing, monitoring and identifying artifacts and marking heritage buffers
- Coordinate, advise and conduct on-site fire management activities including cool burning programs and fire break management
- Conduct daily, weekly and monthly environmental management checks to monitor environmental management activities including bilby & fauna surveys, groundwater monitoring, flora & habitat surveys, weed monitoring, and pest & feral animal control
About You
- Must be a member of the Joombarn-buru native title group
- Hold a Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management or be willing to obtain
- Current WA C-Class driver's licence
- Excellent knowledge of the Cultural Heritage of the country on which the Thunderbird Project operates
- Ability to encourage, facilitate and participate in the exchange of knowledge and skills between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Basic literacy, numeracy and computer skills
- Ability to follow instructions and comply with health & safety policies and procedures
- Able to demonstrate a planned approach to work
- Able to work in hot and humid conditions for extended periods of time
- Willingness to work away from home on a site-based roster
