Job description

  • Smaller scale Chief Information Officer role combines strategic and “hands-on”.
  • Industry/Sector experience less important than ability & skills.
  • Attractive salary package + chance to escape city to the country.

Picture a long-established organisation with a strong leadership team and a real vision for the future. It services a diverse and demanding customer group and sound technology is in place although, as the CEO admits, it is not being truly optimised. There is a thirst for data to underpin forward planning and decision making but it isn’t always that easy to access. Moreover, there are a number of exciting improvement/development projects in the wings, all aimed at making the organisation more effective, better connected, and ABLE TO deliver superior outcomes to their stakeholders. This is where you come in!

This is a newly created role and brings together the software and hardware elements of the business. Storage infrastructure (IaaS) and management of the corporate network including related help desk support is outsourced and the supplier relationship needs to be managed to ensure that it is both responsive and cost effective. The organisation is changing the way it does business and that means systems development, implementation, enhancement and support that is very customer focused (internal and external), whilst also developing the longer term strategies around IT to ensure ongoing sustainability. There is only a small Hardware team to be managed day to day, hence the hands on elements of the role, particularly around software, process/systems mapping, redesign and implementation.

In the CEO’s opinion there are many ways in which software enhancement can benefit the organisation – records management, data flow, dashboard development and even the support of some technical projects around GPS monitoring, robot automation, SCADA and AI. The role exudes potential and challenge and we can promise a stimulating ride! It’s a chance to further hone your people management skills through leading and developing a team that just enhances its reputation by delivering in full, within budget every time and delivering a great customer experience. You will be working with diverse stakeholders right across the organisation and the contribution you make will be noticed.

We are looking for a tertiary qualified and rounded IT professional who has a track record of delivering meaningful and impactful hardware and software strategies and projects through a team whilst also being willing to be hands on. We want evidence of stakeholder engagement that results in the right outcomes for all concerned, albeit in a manner that shows an understanding of true governance. We’d love you to bring great experience with networks and storage infrastructure, the development of dashboards that add value and, maybe, even exposure to technologies around remote controlling processes.

We’re not at all concerned about the industry or sector in which you’ve been working – business, government, utility, even consulting. What we’re putting more emphasis on is your ability to build positive relationships at all levels, to listen and interpret accurately, to think strategically, to understand project delivery from a commercial perspective and to display a down to earth approach to IT that is also tempered with a good sense of humour. No room here for a technocrat! Remember also, you’re going to be a role model and so your ability to inspire a team to new heights of performance and enjoy that, is vital.

This is a senior role in the organisation and the salary package reflects that. Accommodation support will also be provided to help you make the move. You’ll be escaping the traffic and public transport snarls of a Melbourne or Sydney. It may take you minutes to get to work! You’ll be relocating (yes, you can’t commute for this one) to a beautiful regional centre, not all that far from Melbourne, and offering a great family/community lifestyle that abounds with sporting, leisure and arts opportunities. Good schools are available as is modern healthcare support. All in all a perfect combination of challenging career opportunity AND the chance to realign yours and your family’s lifestyle.
