The Opportunity

We are excited to announce two unique opportunities in our Central Group (Northern Territory focused) team. These roles will have a critical role in preparing written advice to the Minister and Assistant Minister, including the quality assurance reviews of briefs, letters, ministerial advice and the coordination of Minister and Prime Minister visits across the Northern Territory. As an Assistant Director in one of our dynamic teams, you will have the opportunity to work with key senior leaders and engagement and policy teams to create meaningful correspondences and actions, forging strong partnerships across all levels of government.

As the EL1 Assistant Director, you will undertake a variety of work including but not limited to:

  • prepare high quality advice for Ministers and NIAA Senior Leadership.
  • exposure to the commitments happening across the Northern Territory
  • working to drive outcomes to support the aspirations of First Nations communities
  • coordinating travel and related ministerial correspondence for Minister and Assistant Minister visits across the Northern Territory
  • providing leadership, guidance, support and a point of contact for NIAA staff about Ministerial and briefing requirements
  • build on your existing cultural competency, ensuring that you work with cultural sensitivity to a high standard.

Our Ideal Candidate

To be successful in an EL1 Assistant Director role you will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • demonstrate a high level of cultural competency and sensitivity
  • exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • experience providing high quality written advice to Minister/s and senior leadership
  • actively build and maintain strong working relationships through collaboration with a variety of stakeholders
  • have strong communication skills and the ability to work and communicate respectfully and positively with First Nations Peoples and communities in collaboration on activities to support both community and government aspirations
  • have well developed organisational skills, including ability to adapt to change and manage competing priorities
  • experience gathering information, data and advice from a range of internal and external sources and shaping into clear and concise written advice in short timeframes
  • problem solve and apply critical thinking to analyse information from various sources (including data) to identify gaps and suggest improvements
  • ability to work with a considerable degree of independence, under broad direction from a manager
  • create a culturally safe workplace by fostering an environment where the concept of culture and how it influences the workplace and interactions, is understood
  • guide the implementation of culturally appropriate strategies for working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level. 
  • The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
