Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services LTD.

Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health Service is a community-controlled health service providing holistic health care to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the ACT and surrounding areas. The Service manages approximately 30 programs through various funding agreements and employs more than 80 staff offering salary sacrifice pursuant to tax office regulations and organisational policy.

Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurses to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing quality patient care, administering medications, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, and have a passion for helping others. Open Positions

  • 5 x Registered Nurse - working out of Alexander Maconochie Centre (ACT Corrective Services), Hume Highway.
  • 1 x Mental Health Nurse
  • 1 x Chronic Disease Nurse
  • 1 x Australian Family Partnership Nurse

The remuneration for these roles will be in accordance with the ACT Public Sector Nursing and Midwifery Enterprise Agreement 2020-2022.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to identify situations where the input of other staff, such as a Doctor,Nurse Practioner, Aboriginal Health Worker, Midwife Nurse, Psychiatrist or Psychologist is required.
  • A demonstrated capacity to work effectively and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • A commitment to ongoing participation in education, professional development, evidence based research and quality assurance.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and demonstrated organisational skills.
  • Maintain current registrations and valid Drivers License

DUTIES

1. Provide clinical care including:

  • Bloods and specimen collection, ECG’s, assessment and management of wounds, suture removal and administration of medication
  • Attend to full health checks and contribute towards development of chronic disease care plans consistent with set criteria.
  • Attend baby checks.
  • Provide advice, education and referrals as necessary.

2. Provide clinical support to the Doctors:

  • Review all pathology results and collaborate with doctors on same.

3. Provide outreach clinical care:

  • Conduct Home Visits.
  • Conduct Palliative Care Visits.
  • Provide clinical care to inmates in the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC), through the Winnunga AHCS AMC Health and Wellbeing Clinic located in the AMC.

4. Education and health promotion:

  • Work in collaboration with other staff at Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services and take a leadership role in implementing education and health promotion for clients and the community.
  • Manage health promotion programs for the clinical waiting area.
  • Manage education programs on such conditions as asthma, diabetes, nutrition etc.
  • Provide education and training to other health service staff on the health needs and social issues of clients of the service.
  • Provide advice, education and referrals for clients as necessary.

5. Vaccine storage management:

  • Maintain the integrity of all immunisations.
  • Understand cold chain management and maintain the cold chain.
  • Understand all Commonwealth Department of Health guidelines in respect to vaccine storage and management.
  • Understand and adhere to the policies developed in regards to vaccine storage and management.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures in regards to vaccine storage and management.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of vaccines are present at all times.

6. Infection control:

  • Maintain infection control principles at all times.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures in regards to infection control management.
  • Educate staff on the principles, policies and procedures of infection control.

7. Manage the quality improvement activities relevant to the clinic:

  • Ensure that staff are familiar with the policies and procedures of the organisation and that staff comply with policies and procedures.
  • Take an active role in initiating the implementation of policies and procedures and changes to same where necessary in order to provide excellence in service delivery.
  • Ensure proper procedures are in place for the appropriate referral of clients to other health services internal and external.
  • Ensure all standards are maintained for the purpose of AGPAL Accreditation and take responsibility for coordinating AGPAL Accreditation processes in collaboration with the Practice Manager and Accreditation Manager.

8. Administrative duties:

  • Ensure all recalling of patients for treatments is up-to-date at all times.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of all clinical items and equipment by ordering in advance.
  • Interview all representatives of companies who visit the clinic, particularly representatives of equipment companies.
  • Assist Doctors as required.
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are clean and ready for clients to use.

9. Professional responsibilities:

  • Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct.
  • Participate in and contribute to the fulfilment of operational needs of the organisation as they arise.
  • Participate in and contribute to the successful outcomes of the organisation.
  • Work in other program areas as required by the organisation.
  • Participate in research activities within the services as required.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with all Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services policies and procedures.
  • Participate in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Participate in all quality improvement activities of the organisation as required.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Attend and participate in Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services professional development program.

WORKING WITH VULNERABLE PEOPLE CHECK (WWVPC)

All employees are required to provide their WWVPC registration to Winnunga AHCS, or to carry out a WWVPC pursuant to the Working With Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 (ACT).

OR

PROFESSIONAL CLINICAL REGISTRATION

A current professional clinical registration inclusive of a police background/Working with Vulnerable People (Background Check) Act 2011 or reciprocal requirements will be accepted.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field
  • Active Registered Nurse license
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards
