At our Shanty Creek Residential Rehabilitation community, we provide a safe and supportive environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women to find solutions to their drug and alcohol problems.
Located 60km from Cairns, Shanty Creek can support up to 25 residents at a time with a team of 8 – 10 clinical and non-clinical staff.
Your Opportunity
The service is managed by a multidisciplinary team, and we are currently looking for a Registered Nurse to join the team. This is a permanent full time or part-time role with significant flexibility around hours. It may suit a parent returning to work, and someone who is currently studying additional qualifications, and offers genuine work/life balance.
Our nursing staff are the providers of withdrawal support and other medical needs of the residents in the program. In addition to conducting initial assessments, you will monitor and assess their progress, provide supportive care, administer medication and supervise self-administration of medication, and provide routine nursing care.
The role pays $51.00 - $54.00 per hour and you will be eligible Salary Packaging up to $15,900 per year, plus an additional $2,650 in Entertainment and Accommodation benefits.
Mon - Friday 8am - 4pm would be preferred but can be flexible with hours.
What We Are Looking For
As a qualified Registered Nurse, you will have a strong background, or interest in, AOD and Mental Health, and a commitment to supporting people dealing with these challenges.
Clinical Duties include:
- Clinical assessments and effective nursing interventions including GP referrals and coordinating hospital admissions as required
- Providing intake support and transition of people into the Residential service
- Medication management including documentation and governance
You will need to have a tertiary qualification in Nursing and hold current AHPRA registration.
Coupled with your clinical skill set, you will also have:
- An understanding of how Residential Care works and be comfortable in this environment
- A genuine dedication to helping people to reduce their substance use and improve their life journey
- A flexible, open, and engaging approach – you’ll be working with a range of people with differing needs and complexities
- Strong communication skills, ability to self-manage and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- AOD and mental health knowledge
- An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Community and their medical needs.
