REGISTRAR | INTENSIVE CARE | ACT
Our client based in the Capital of Australia is looking for a Registrar for their Intensive Care Unit.

THE POSITION:
Our client based in ACT is seeking a critical care SRMO in post graduate years 3 and 4, who is interested in pursuing a career in emergency medicine, general practice/ACRRM, INTENSIVE CARE or anaesthetics officer to undertake duties in the care and treatment of patients in three of four departments (ED, ICU, and either Cardiology/CCU or Anaesthetics).
THE HOSPITAL:
The Hospital is a 250+ bed teaching facility affiliated with the Australian National University. The location is also home to many leading research organizations, serving the northern suburbs of ACT.
Inpatient services include ICU, general medicine, neurology / stroke, cardiology, O&G, general surgery, urology and mental health.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES, AND DUTIES:
- Emergency Medicine with rotations to ICU, Cardiology and Anaesthetics
- Participate in scheduled handover meetings.
- Attend morning rounds, assessing and managing patients and identifying those for discharge
- Participate in the daily multidisciplinary meeting where relevant.
- Help resuscitate, assess and admit acutely sick medical or surgical patients under the supervision of a registrar or consultant.
- Liaise regularly with supervising consultants particularly with regard to changes in patient clinical conditions.
- Maintain medical records in accordance with hospital policy and requirements in a timely fashion, including accurate and timely completion of discharge summaries.
- Liaise regularly with senior medical and nursing staff to identify patients for discharge, and optimise patient flow in the department.
- Contribute to systems improvement and quality monitoring activities in conjunction with designated supervisor, including audit projects, with approval.
- Contribute to ensuring the cost-effective use of hospital resources.
- Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and the health and safety of others in the workplace.
- Comply with relevant Hospital WHS policies, procedures, work instructions and requests.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Full registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA
- Postgraduate experience commensurate at a minimum of RMO year 2 (post graduate year 3 or 4)
- Ability to work a 24/7 shift-work roster which will include some nights, public holidays and weekends
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the general management of a clinical unit in a patient-focused environment, including the ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work within personal level of expertise and seek assistance as needed from senior staff
- Understanding of the mission and values of the organisation and an ability to apply them practically
- Interest in working towards speciality training in acute care medicine, or rural and remote medicine, and an involvement in continuing medical education
