Registrar - Service - Orthopaedic Surgery

Fixed Term Full Time and Fixed Term Part Time appointments will be available for 6-12 months with the possibility of extension(s).

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 30/10/2024. 

Position Profile:
The Orthopaedic Registrars provide a high-quality clinical service to patients at hospitals to which they are attached. They undertake patient assessment, management and surgical care under the supervision of the relevant Consultants, within the context of a multi-disciplinary surgical team. They also provide teaching and support to Resident Medical Officers and Interns. Applicants will be considered for various positions across the Metropolitan Health Service participating in the Inter-Hospital Rotating Scheme (IHRS) including: Royal Perth Hospital (RPH); Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH); Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH); and Perth Children Hospital (PCH). Rural and outer metropolitan allocations are part of the rotations for Orthopaedic Registrars employed at metropolitan hospitals and these may include Albany, Armadale, Geraldton, Bunbury, Rockingham, Osborne Park, Kalgoorlie, Joondalup, Peel Health Campus, and other allocations as determined.

Area Profile(s):Applicants will be considered for various positions at tertiary sites across the Metropolitan Health Service, participating in the Inter-Hospital Rotating Scheme, including:            

Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) is Perth’s inner city, tertiary adult hospital and part of the Royal Perth Bentley Group. Home to the State Major Adult Trauma Service, RPH offers tertiary-level emergency medicine, mental health, complex and elective surgical care, and specialist medical services. It is also a premier teaching hospital and contributes to innovation and excellence in medical research and patient care.

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is one of Australia's leading teaching tertiary hospitals. Located at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre 4km from Perth city centre, SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical service including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care. It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State - and is the State's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.

Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) is a 783-bed tertiary hospital offering a range of health services including the State Rehabilitation Service, a comprehensive cancer centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and neonatal services, and the State Adult Burns Service. FSH also delivers specialised services such as heart and lung transplantations and hyperbaric medicine.

Fremantle Hospital (FHHS) is a 300-bed specialist hospital focused on providing high-quality aged care, mental health, secondary rehabilitation, planned surgeries and medical services.

As part of rotation arrangements applicants may also be allocated to primary health sites including:

  • Joondalup Health Campus
  • Fremantle Hospital
  • Perth Children’s Hospital
  • Peel Health Campus
  • Rockingham General Hospital
  • St John of God Midland
  • Albany Health Campus
  • Geraldton Regional Hospital
