This role will see you as part of a small team engaged in providing assistance that is primarily focused on the handling and packing of artworks in all formats, but may also include other aspects of art storage and preventive maintenance of the collection. Tasks will include undertaking the handling, transport, storage, packing, location control and documentation of the National Gallery’s art collection with a focus on long-term outward loans as part of the Sharing the National Collection initiative.
Sharing the National Collection is a landmark initiative for the National Gallery. It represents an elevation of one of the country’s leading art institution brands and a significant expansion of the reach of visual art across regional, remote and suburban Australia. Being part of this project team is a significant opportunity to engage with cultural institution partners across the country and be a part of a noteworthy chapter in the art history of the nation.
Our successful candidate will have a level of physical fitness required to handle and move a wide range of works of art which includes correct manual handling techniques and procedures. They will have neat handwriting and graphic skills, including the use of pens and fine brushes, and the ability to undertake or be trained in sewing using fine stitching.
