The Opportunity
Dairy Food Safety Victoria (DFSV) is the independent statutory Authority that regulates dairy food safety in Victoria and plays a vital role in protecting the Victorian dairy industry's reputation for food safety and integrity of production domestically and for export.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Regulatory Scientist to join us as part of our Science, Surveillance and Technical Services team.
The role:
Reporting to the Manager Science, Surveillance and Technical Services, the Regulatory Scientist is responsible for providing technical and scientific support to industry, undertaking activities to verify licensee compliance against relevant regulatory standards and managing regulatory non-compliance.
The successful applicant for this role will be responsible for:
- Compliance activities including compliance audits, planned monitoring and surveillance and undertaking appropriate enforcement action where required.
- Investigating and responding to notifications, technical enquiries or complaints.
- Providing support to assist dairy licensees to comply with statutory requirements.
- Reviewing applications for new dairy businesses and undertaking appropriate enforcement action where required.
- Leading and/or contributing to projects and other organisational priorities such as Dairy RegTech.
Key Requirements
- Experience in food manufacturing/food microbiology (preferably within the dairy sector) or similar.
- Experience in undertaking verification activities, particularly regulatory compliance and enforcement in accordance with procedures and timeframes, communicating findings and/or actions including briefing ‘upwards’.
- An understanding of operational food safety systems, and food regulatory standards and legislation, the Australia New Zealand food regulation framework, particularly in processing sectors.
- A working knowledge of contemporary food safety issues and challenges, including risk management approaches.
- Experience in identifying and investigating food safety risks, applying relevant legislation and food safety policies and procedures, and documentation of findings to support regulatory decision making and action.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills and experience in the interpretation and communication of scientific concepts.
- Experience in data analysis and interpretation, proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Understanding of the principles of food safety culture (desirable)
- Project management skills
