Job description

The Research and Analysis Lead will be responsible for supporting labour market and workforce-related research, analysis, report writing and management for Service and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA) across our industry sectors.

About Service and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA):

Service and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA) is an industry-owned, industry-led Jobs & Skills Council (JSC), funded by the Department of Employment & Workplace Relations (DEWR). We offer workforce planning, guidance and advocacy for the following industries:

  • Arts
  • Personal Services
  • Retail
  • Tourism
  • Hospitality
Working within a tripartite approach, SaCSA is the critical link between industry stakeholders, government, and unions. We aim to provide a stronger, more strategic voice in ensuring Australia’s Vocational Education and Training sector delivers stronger outcomes for employers, workers, learners, trainers, and educators.

As the leader in workforce development initiatives for our industries, SaCSA collaborates with industry to identify and articulate current and future employment trends and develops solutions that best serve those needs.

About the role:
SaCSA research is focused on identifying current and emerging labour market and training issues and identifying suitable solutions – based on available data and in consultation with industry. This will include:
  • Contributing to workforce planning and specific projects by identifying current and future workforce needs and opportunities to address them.
  • Integrating analysis of data and insights from stakeholders and applying them to the policy context (including projects on national skills reform), to identify fit-for-purpose policy solutions.
  • Contributing to a small number of projects at any given time and working closely with other colleagues, including across our engagement, and training and product development teams.

In return, you’ll be part of a driven and purpose-led team, where the impact of your work will make a difference to the quality of life for learners, for industry and the Australian workforce as a whole.

Our culture is supportive, collaborative and inclusive, with opportunities for professional growth and development (and we like to have fun along the way, too!).

About you:

We are looking for talented individuals with:
  • Demonstrated experience in economic and labour market topics and the national and state/territory policy context.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills – including experience in developing research, analysis, report writing, and communicating findings to senior audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – including the ability to engage across teams to integrate quantitative analysis with stakeholder feedback to draw out the implications for training product development. This will also involve some engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project management skills and the ability to contribute to a small number of concurrent projects, from inception to delivery and evaluation.
  • Self-motivated, resilient and able to navigate uncertainty as you contribute to and support a small, dynamic and relatively new team and organisation.
  • Desirable: Tertiary Qualifications in Economics, Policy Research or a related discipline, supplemented with an understanding of the national labour market and skills system, in particular Australia’s Vocational Education and Training sector.
