About the organisation
The Regional Australia Institute (RAI) works to improve social and economic outcomes for people living in regional Australia. As the only national not-for-profit think tank focused on regional issues in Australia, the organisation was specifically formed to help bridge the gap between knowledge, debate and decision-making. Working closely with Government, Industry and regional communities, the organisation develops evidence-based research to ensure better evidence-based policy and activation outcomes.
About the role
Leading a small team and reporting directly to the CEO, the Research and Policy Director leads RAI's RESEARCH AND POLICY program, working to distil compelling policy recommendations that are clear, tangible and actionable. Noting the RAI's collaborative model that includes all Federal and State governments, the Research and Policy Director will convene regular policy forums, managing key stakeholders and facilitating regular dialogue on issues and topics of distinct relevance to regional policy and practice. Key deliverables include leading two major research reports on topics of national significance each year, and ensuring the delivery of high quality, publicly available IP. The Research and Policy Director will continue to build upon the RAI's national body of work, further developing the evidence base for change and impact in support of regional Australia's future prosperity.
About you
Highly experienced in engaging with government and industry at all levels, you are a visionary and purposeful leader with a deep understanding of public sector decision-making processes. Well-qualified and credible in RESEARCH AND economic analysis, you have a nuanced understanding of the issues facing regional Australia (preferably through lived experience), and the passion and discipline needed to create RESEARCH AND POLICY programs that will contribute to an Australia that is more equitable, more balanced, more sustainable and more prosperous. Ambitious and focused, you are poised to deliver on the strategic and financial goals of the Institute, whilst cultivating a culture of excellence and integrity both internally and externally.
