Research Assistant - Clinical Cardiovascular Research

The Clinical Research Group at the Heart Research Institute is located in The Cardiology Research Unit at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH). In conjunction with a major collaborator, the Congenital Heart Alliance of Australian and New Zealand (CHAANZ), we are seeking to complete a comprehensive epidemiological study of children and adults with Congenital Heart Disease in Australia. This project, “An Australian Study of the Outcomes and Burden of Congenital Heart Disease”, aims to collect data from across Australia in a centralised Adult Congenital Heart Disease Registry and to conduct comprehensive profiling on a representative sample of this population, to better understand the burden of congenital heart disease in Australia.

We are seeking a Research Assistant to be responsible for study coordination alongside the Clinical Research Group. This role represents an opportunity to be involved in a major Cardiovascular Research project. The position is full-time (5 days per week) for 8 months and will be based at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Sydney.

Key Accountabilities 

• Recruitment of congenital heart disease patients for participant profiling.
• Organisation of patient appointments for face-to-face profiling activities.
• Dissemination of online surveys and testing tools for remote profiling activities.
• Collection of data and entry into a central study database, management of the site’s study database.
• Study coordination; management of governance approval, study documentation, consent procedures, etc.
• Maintaining clear communication with coordinating staff at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Essential Criteria:

• An Honours degree in science, exercise science, physiotherapy, biomedical science, public health, allied health or equivalent
• Previous experience in research settings and clinical trials
• Working with Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent for each state
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid certificates
• Excellent communication and organisational skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
• Relevant computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
• Ability to work with a culturally and socially diverse cohort of people

Desirable Criteria:

• ICH-GCP Certification
• Experience with six-minute walk tests
• Previous research experience or degree including honours or a Masters by research
• Experience working with adults, young adults, living with chronic conditions and/or people with special needs
• Experience using various clinical, research or commercial software (e.g., REDCap, SPSS, R, Python)
