About the RoleThe Research Assistant position entails working with the Virtual Reality (VR) Team at Orygen and The University of Melbourne on the VISOR project, a randomised controlled trial focused on developing a VR-based intervention for young people recovering from psychosis. Responsibilities include leading participant recruitment, conducting clinical assessments and interviews, managing study databases, and collaborating with lead investigators to optimize trial processes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Recruit participants for the research trial.
  • Collect and record participant information and consent procedures, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
  • Steady development of an academic research profile in the area of Youth Mental Health.
  • Support the preparation of regular reports of research outcomes for communication to the funding body.

Who We Are Looking ForThe successful candidate will excel in building rapport and conducting assessments with young people experiencing mental ill-health, demonstrating autonomy, strong attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills. They should possess excellent organisational abilities and proficiency in relevant software.

You will also have:

  • A postgraduate degree (Honours, Masters or doctoral degree) in the behavioural or social sciences and/or related discipline, with subsequent experience.
  • Strong rapport-building skills and ability to maintain good working relationships within populations of young people with mental ill-health.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct recruitment and assessments within populations of young people with mental ill-health.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
