As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.

Would you like to get your research master’s degree or PhD while working as a paid Research Assistant?

Would you like to spend up to 6 weeks at a time travelling and living on community around Australia?

The Djurali Center for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research and Education has an exciting opportunity. As a paid Research Assistant, you can earn a living and make a meaningful contribution while working towards your higher degree research qualification.

Our decade-long research program focuses on screening, prevention, and management of cardiovascular diseases for Indigenous people aged 55 and older. You will work closely with our AMS partners to embed digital health programs that have proven to save lives. Joining our team, you will work closely with ten communities nationwide. Your work will be meaningful and critical to the success of the project.

This job is for you if you are interested in extensive travelling to rural and remote locations in Australia, if you are motivated to learn, strengthen your research skills, and obtain a higher research degree while being paid as a Research Assistant.

As the Research Assistant for this program, you will live for several weeks at a time in each of our ten regional, rural, and remote research communities. You will be the liaison between the chief investigators, community partners (Aboriginal Medical Services) and research participants. You will be the key person on the ground, collecting data and ensuring the research protocol is implemented.

You will work alongside Indigenous and non-Indigenous senior researchers and be supported in learning and/or mastering qualitative and quantitative research skills, including data collection, analysis, interpretation, and manuscript writing.

We are a small team hosted by the Heart Research Institute, internationally recognised for cutting-edge cardiovascular research. The Djurali team is values-driven and committed to partnering with Aboriginal communities to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
