Job description

Level B, $107,276 - $126,894 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation.

Full time, fixed term position for 36 months.

The Australian wine sector aims to be a leading global producer of ‘lifestyle wines’ – wines lower in alcohol and calories than traditional wines. To achieve this vision, industry and academic co-operative research is needed to produce, market and sell no- and low-alcohol (NOLO) wines that exceed consumer expectations. A recently funded CRCP project will leverage the resources and expertise of a consortium of industry stakeholders (from across the supply chain) and world-renowned researchers to address key NOLO winemaking challenges: microbial stability and shelf-life, flavour capture and re-use, mouthfeel and textural deficiencies, and the image of NOLO wine. This multi-faceted approach will deliver growth in global markets, and therefore economic benefits for the wine industry.

We invite applications for a Post-doctoral position as part of the Marketing Pillar of the CRCP project. The successful candidate is a self-motivated individual, who is willing to conduct quantitative and qualitative research on the consumers’ motives behind the trial and adoption of no-, low- and mid-alcohol strength wines over time in Australia, the US and the UK. The role will also comprise project management, fieldwork, domestic and international travel, collaboration with the project stakeholders, co-supervision of research students and/or technical staff, workshop participation, and preparation of reports and peer-reviewed publications.

The successful candidate will be based at the Adelaide Business School, which is home to the Wine Business Group, the largest concentration of Wine Business academics in Australia. The group aims to support the sustainable growth of the domestic and international wine sector through research, teaching, and industry engagement. More specifically, the successful candidate will be affiliated to the Marketing Discipline with the expectation that they will contribute positively to its culture. This involves the willingness and ability to support a workplace culture based on inclusion, accountability, problem-solving orientation, and emotional intelligence.

However, given the multidisciplinary scope of the project, the successful candidate needs to be able to interact with other researchers and technical staff in the areas of bioengineering, oenology, and sensory science.

To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD in Marketing or related field from Business, or Economics.
  • A growing track record of research and clear potential to publish in highly ranked journals in marketing and/or tourism (ABDC: A and A*; ideally also FT50 potential) and attract externally funded grants (cat 1 or industry).
  • Demonstrated background in the use of quantitative methods (i.e., SEM, DCEs, etc.).
  • Displayed evidence in writing and securing research and teaching grants.
  • Experience in HDR student supervision.
  • A demonstrated aptitude to engage collaboratively with industry partners and other external stakeholders for teaching and research purposes, preferably in relation to Wine & Food Marketing and Tourism.

Highly Desirable:

  • Expertise in sensory and consumer science.
  • Involvement with relevant industry and professional bodies.
