About the Role
The Male Infertility and Germ Cell Biology Laboratory, part of the School of BioSciences and located within the Bio21 Molecular Science & Biotechnology Institute, seeks a Research Fellow with expertise in cell and Microtubule Biology. Led by Professor Moira O’Bryan, the lab aims to uncover key mechanisms in male germ cell development, human male infertility, and the relationship between fertility and health. With a focus on deciphering cytoskeletal structures and transport pathways in sperm production, the Research Fellow, under Dr. Jessica Dunleavy's direction, will conduct and coordinate high-quality research.
Additionally, the role involves supervising undergraduate and post-graduate students.
Your responsibilities will include:
Contribute to the team's research efforts, progressively developing expertise with increasing autonomy.
Under the guidance of senior academic staff, conduct research of international caliber, leading to publications in high-impact journals.
Ensure academic papers and other scholarly outputs meet the University of Melbourne's research expectations and standards.
Actively participate in research seminars and conferences to disseminate findings to academic audiences.
Collaborate on the preparation of research proposal submissions to internal or external funding bodies, adhering to relevant guidelines and criteria.
Who We Are Looking For
Ideally, you will possess a background in cell and molecular biology research, with a strong background in high end microscopy, wet lab experience, strong collaboration skills, a team-oriented mindset, excellent presentation abilities, and prior experience with research publications and/or proposals. A specific background in reproductive biology is not required, but a background in microtubule or cytoskeletal biology would be advantageous.
You will also have:
Completion of a PhD in cell and molecular biology or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in high-end imaging techniques, such as scanning and/or transmission electron microscopy, confocal and/or super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, including experience in data analysis.
Demonstrated experience in key techniques used in molecular and cell biology.
A demonstrated aptitude for research, with a sound publication record in relevant areas, commensurate with experience and opportunities.
