Research Scientist/ Postdoctoral fellow in Paediatric hearing loss- National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL)

  • 2 Year Fixed Term opportunity
  • Based in our Macquarie University location with hybrid work arrangement
  • Salary range: $83,246 - $130,500 p.a. plus 15.4% superannuation (salary determined based on level of experience)

Your opportunity

As a Research Scientist/ postdoctoral fellow, you will be a key member of the Communication Sciences Department and work on research projects in Paediatric hearing, all in support of NAL's mission and strategic objectives. Key responsibilities/duties include:

  • Leading and participating in initiating, designing, planning and executing research projects on paediatric hearing loss in accordance with NAL project procedures
  • Analyzing and interpreting data, and supporting other staff in data analysis and interpretation
  • Disseminating research findings through high-quality publication in international peer-reviewed journals and trade journals, and presenting at relevant conferences, as both lead author and co-author
  • Identifying, developing and/or maintaining relationships and collaborations within paediatric audiology
  • Maintaining research expertise and keeping abreast of new developments relevant to NAL's objectives and develop opportunities for integrating new scientific ideas into NAL.
  • Serve as a manager for staff in the department

What you'll bring

  • Ability to design and execute studies in one or more of the following 4 areas: language, neuroscience, hearing (e.g., speech perception), cognitive science
  • Experience with neuroimaging techniques (EEG/FNIRS/MEG) and/or pediatrics research is desirable but not mandatory
  • Understanding of hearing loss, audiological service provision, and the hearing rehabilitation industry, particularly early intervention.
  • Skills in data management and manipulation and statistical approaches
  • Experience managing team members or supervising students
  • Qualitative research skills desirable but not mandatory
  • Ph.D. in relevant scientific discipline within or related to audiological or hearing research is desired but not mandatory
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications and/or independent or collaborative research are desired but not mandatory
