As a Resource Ranger, you will be required to provide a high level of technical support to the Senior Ranger and Ranger in Charges. This role's focus area is the Dry Tropics, which includes the three work units at Princess Hills, Undara and Littleton. You will work collaboratively with First Nations people. This position is primarily responsible for coordinating and assisting with the implementation of the management unit's fire and pest programs. This position requires being flexible with working away and camping with management unit staff in remote and isolated areas across different landscapes.
Frequent environmental assessments; Botanical surveys; Environmental health checks; assessments of impacts of ecosystems by new infrastructure projects. You will have a high level of experience leading wildfire events, including use of the Incident Command System (ICS) principles. Strong knowledge in GIS systems and maintaining and updating QPWS internal databases and reporting systems, project management and report writing is required.
Specific knowledge regarding weed species in the Dry Tropics will be highly advantageous, and this includes the selection and use of appropriate methods, techniques, and equipment for long term management programs. This role will require a strong awareness of policy and legislation related to fire and pest management activities with frequent reviews and recommendations pertaining to current Pest and Fire programs to ensure their continued effectiveness in collaboration with the Regional Pest and Fire Team.
This role's focus area is the Dry Tropics. Physical conditions may be challenging including working in heat or cold and climbing steep slopes and rough terrain.
