We are looking for an analyst to join our Resources & Energy Equity Research team. The analyst will work within the team to prepare asset and company valuations that underpin our stock recommendations. Thorough quantitative and qualitative research is required, leveraging financial models and company/industry insights to support our views. The analyst must be able to balance multifaceted commodity market fundamentals, technical engineering data and complex commercial and financial relationships to provide a view on equity pricing with the support of the team. The analyst must be able to present ideas and research internally to our sales team as well as our external clients including fund managers and trading teams. Analysts should view their role as an integral part of the team’s success. The successful incumbent will demonstrate effective teamwork contribution such as actively generating ideas for the team’s development, communicating issues that require action and supporting each other and asking for help when needed.
Key Areas of Responsibilities:Provide proactive and differentiated research on the mining value chain
Develop financial models & valuation databases for all stocks under primary coverage
Support the writing of investment product, including company, sector and thematic reports
Respond to market news, earnings releases, corporate developments and other market-moving information when necessary and in a proactive manner
Conduct bespoke work for clients, supporting the development of strong key client relationships
Support engagement with clients and relevant sales team members to communicate ideas to ensure maximum exposure/return from the time invested in producing product
Develop working relationships with corporates, clients and government/industry organisations
Bachelor degree or above in business with a finance and/or accounting specialisation in combination with a mining related discipline (such as geology or engineering) preferred
3-7 years’ experience as a sell-side research associate/analyst, investment banking analyst or adjacent industry such as funds management or finance/accounting background would be considered
Strong modelling skills and an interest in carbon and commodity markets will be an ideal fit
An industry background is preferred but not essential; those with analogous industry experience to mining such as energy, utilities, construction and/or sustainability are encouraged to apply
A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Masters of Business Administration (MBA) would be an advantage, but not deemed essential
Strong analytical skills and a strong understanding of financial modelling is core to the work that will be performed, requiring strong Microsoft excel skills and experience
Excellent interpersonal sensitivity and a good team player
High sense of commercial awareness
Excellent communication, relationship and management skills to both internal and external clients
