Job description

Ngurratjuta is seeking new team members for the following full time Restorative Justice position:

Justice Reinvestment Coordinator

Reporting relationships

The Justice Reinvestment Coordinator will lead day to day operations onsite, as well as manage the teams of local hires; they will be required to build trust and work collaboratively with other team members and external stakeholders on a regular basis. They will also directly report to General Manager, Service Delivery.

Role objective

The focus of this role is to ensure the experiences, expertise and aspirations of First Nations community members and young people in the three communities are at the centre of all engagement work in the justice reinvestment initiative, particularly in respect of implementing positive activities and development of community-driven justice reinvestment strategic plans.

We are looking for a person with a passion for the topic of Justice Reinvestment and who wants to be part of working towards local community-led change.

Key responsibilities

This role will be required to perform responsibilities to a high standard within agreed timelines and in line with the visions, missions, and values of [WW].

The Justice Reinvestment Coordinator will use their experience and understanding of Justice Reinvestment principles to:

• Create strong, trusted relationships with the local community members and key stakeholders

• Support local community members and key stakeholders to better understand community-led justice reinvestment.

• Facilitate activities, training and programs, including engagement of third party providers, to provide positive outlets and engagement for community members.

• Engage and support partnerships in the three communities with key community groups and stakeholders

• Work with the General Manager, Service Delivery to plan and implement community engagement strategies, and coordinating the development, implementation and evaluation of community justice reinvestment strategic plans. This may include creating and distributing communications materials.

Selection criteria

Essential criteria

• Knowledge and appreciation of the cultural and social needs of First Nations peoples combined with continuing respect and support for First Nations cultural practices in dealing with community members and staff.

• Demonstrated understanding of the justice system, its impacts on First Nations peoples and the need for community-led justice reinvestment initiatives.

• A commitment to First Nations self-determination, community leadership and empowerment.

• Experience working with and alongside First Nations communities creating strong, trusted relationships.

• Experience planning and implementing community engagement strategies.

Qualifications

A combination of a relevant degree, or certification accompanied by relevant work experience.

Role requirements

It is a requirement of all staff to meet the following competencies:

• Sound written and interpersonal communication skills.

• Organisation and time management skills, including the ability to manage varied and conflicting demands to agreed standards and timelines.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Ability to use Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Understanding of and alignment to the missions, vision, policies and procedures of [WW].

• Demonstrated commitment to the effective implementation of Workplace Health & Safety and ethical and diversity practices in the workplace.
