Locally-owned, the dynamic Milawa Cheese Company – est. 1988, supplies multi-award-winning hand-made cheeses (Milawa Blue; King River Gold; etc) to grocery (IGA, etc); specialist cheesemongers and high-end (or just really clever) hospitality and tourism operations, Australia-wide! Based in their heritage factory, the Retail Store Manager role evolves the Milawa Cheese Co. retail outlet: delighting customers and empowering Staff!
Milawa Cheese Co.’s converted milk co-op factory location is a key must-see tourism destination. Just off the Hume Freeway (Sydney to Melbourne); open year-round, the outlet serves locals/tourists from Albury Wodonga; Rutherglen and Kings Valley winery regions; Victoria’s four largest Ski Resorts: Falls Creek, Mt Beauty, Mt Buffalo and Mt Hotham; and local festivals – Wangaratta Jazz Festival; Rutherglen Winery Walkabout, etc.
Located onsite in the high traffic Factory retail venue, the retail outlet creates experiences - not just cheese sales! Staff host individual cheese tasting; match accompaniments (crackers, jams, honey, pickles, pesto, drinks, cutlery etc), and/or cheese packs, etc. and refer to onsite/local traders.
Additionally, co-located onsite are Wood Park Wines Cellar Door, The Wattle Tree Collection, Milawa Bread and Milawa Kitchen – plus the Outlet also hosts onsite workshops, etc. - all adding to the site’s retail offering.
THE ROLE
You are a passionate, hands-on retail manager, driving the outlet’s potential. Reporting to the Operations Manager, your mission includes:
- Applying higher level thinking to develop product ranges; anticipating events & seasonality;
- Fair staff rostering (daily across holidays: mornings, days, afternoons and weekends).
- Successful recruitment/induction; ongoing development; incentives; appraisals, etc.;
- Managing the outlet budget/funds/approvals; stock; takings, etc.;
- Ensuring all staff are maintaining hygiene and food safety standards;
- Successfully managing all customer queries and/or complaints;
- Proactively engaging groups and securing bookings, etc.
- While this is a busy, hands-on role, you drive a rotating roster, allowing ample scope to get out and enjoy everything the region has to offer!
KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Tree-changer or local? You love the country; have relevant retail, hospitality/tourism or grocery management experience; a passion for retail excellence and enjoy managing, developing and motivating retail staff. Self-management, attention-to-detail and strong work ethics are essential.
