Registered Psychiatric Nurse - Custodial Youth Mental Health

- Play a key role in our new Custodial ForensicMental Health unit
Orygen Specialist Program (OSP), a program of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, provides Mental Health services to young people aged 15-25 (soon to be 12-25) and their families/carers in Melbourne's northwest and western suburbs.
The Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist Youth Mental Health care in custodial settings including the Parkville, Malmsbury and Cherry Creek sites.
Your new role:
This new position will form part of the new Mental Health Unit (MHU) at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Custodial Precinct. The MHU staffing model will include Orygen staff working alongside Youth Justice staff to support young people who are admitted on a voluntary basis.
In this role, you will also:
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality evidence-based nursing care to young people across 24 hours, 7 days a week roster and a range of speciality complex areas
- Provide specialist Mental Health nursing interventions
- Contribute to effective management of critical incidents and emergency situations
- Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)
- Minimum 12 months in acute or subacute setting
- Ability to deliver personalised psycho-social care beyond the traditional medical model to facilitate recovery of young people.
- Clinical experience and skills in engaging and working with young people and their families in a Mental Health setting
- Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant settings is highly desirable
