An exciting opportunity exists to work for one of South West Queensland's most dynamic and community responsive organisations. Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland Limited (LDDSWQL) has been serving the community of Toowoomba, and the wider South Western Queensland area for over 40 years.
As our SAFE Connections Sexual Violence Practitioner you will provide immediate and ongoing trauma-informed support to people (and their families) who have been affected by Sexual Violence at any time in their lives and provide a range of activities centred on raising awareness and increasing the capacity of the service system to deliver quality responses that support the recovery and empowerment of survivors of Sexual Violence. The SVP will be central to a client’s journey through the service system acting as service navigators and key conduits for information sharing.
This is a new contract and position for Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland limited and to facilitate the ongoing need to for this program we are currently looking to recruit across Charleville/Cunnamulla and Roma/St George for these positions.
As our SAFE Connections Sexual Violence Practitioner, your duties and key responsibilities will be:
• Delivery of individual or group counselling and support that is trauma informed and culturally responsive. Deliver evidence-based counselling to youth & women aged 12 and over (3-4 sessions per day)
o Understanding the issues related to the assault/abuse and the impact of Sexual Violence.
o Building self-esteem and promoting empowerment and independence.
• Facilitate the successful linking of a client to services identified as suitable to their unique needs.
• Having a clear understanding of and the ability to provide a holistic service model ensure their practice remains contemporary and evidence informed and reflects good practice in responding to Sexual Violence ensuring that responses are appropriate for each individual scenario.
• Participation in local level networks of government and non-government agencies to contribute to a collaborative response to people who have experienced Sexual Violence.
• Must actively maintain currency of knowledge in relation to legislative, policy and operational matters related to Sexual Violence to ensure the information provided to client is relevant and up to date.
• SVP are to respond to local need and be tailored to ensure local service access issues are addressed (such as providing telephone or, online counselling appointments for clients who can’t access centre-based services)
• Participate in team debrief and reflective practice sessions and regular internal and/or external supervision processes
Our ideal key selection criteria for this role would be:
• Knowledge and skills in domestic and family violence and Sexual Violence practices.
• Demonstrate skills in building trust and rapport with clients.
• Knowledge and skills in assessing clients’ needs and the level of care required.
• Respond to and implement appropriate strategies to manage risk - DFV safety/protection issues and DFV risk assessment.
• Ensure delivery of all services is psychologically and culturally safe and within the practice framework of LDDSWQ.
• Assist in determining the nature and severity of the client’s safety needs and risk factors.
• Ensure that any advice provided is personalised and tailored to the client’s identified support needs and support goals.
• Knowledge of providing information about legal processes.
• Demonstrate skill in collaboration with other agencies providing support to the client.
• Ability to deliver psychosocial education and/or therapeutic group work as required.
• Demonstrated ability to proactively support the Values, Principles and Purposes of LDDSQWL.
• Current "C" class driver's license.
• Working with Children Blue Card
