Anglo American Steelmaking Coal
Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity based at our site in Bowen Basin region, QLD to join a technology focused operation with a keen eye for improvement and overall drive for high quality learning development.
Reporting to the Site Safety & Health Manager, the Safety Superintendent- Learning from Incidents (LFI) will coach and advise the line organisation in conducting comprehensive investigations of incidents.
The accountabilities and responsibilities for this role include:
  • Provide governance over the LFI process on site to ensure adherence to industry and Anglo American requirements
  • Ensure LFI process is integrated into other areas of the operation
  • Facilitate investigations and support investigations facilitated by external parties
  • Proactively communicate learnings from site investigations across all levels of the operation
  • Support the implementation of LFI training programs to build site capabilities
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of investigation information into Isometrix
  • Provide guidance on incident classification, including coaching of the line in selection of correct consequence, ratings, agency and mechanism
Qualifications
To be successful in this role ideally you will have:
  • Demonstrated Safety Superintendent experience within an underground coal mine
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline combined with practical safety experience
  • Formal qualification or training in incident investigation e.g. ICAM. FLI
  • Knowledge of Human Factors and application to incident investigations
  • Knowledge of mining operations
  • Demonstrated experience in developing continuous improvement ideas
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong track record with engaging with stakeholders across multiple sites and workstreams
  • Ability to establish and lead a team to safely deliver work and foster a safety-first attitude and culture
