TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Produce patterns according to technical drawings and designs.
● Select, measure, and mark out materials.
● Cut materials to shape using shears or power cutters.
● Set up and maintain industrial sewing machines.
● Sew pieces of fabric together by hand or using industrial sewing machines.
● Hem articles, insert ropes if required, and attach fasteners.
● Attach ropes to products using hand tools.
● Treat materials for water and rot proofing.
● Operate high-frequency and hot air welding equipment if handling PVC material.
● Uphold and maintain industrial sewing machines on the job.
REQUIREMENTS:
To successfully apply for this full-time role, you:
● Certificate III/IV in Manufactured Textile Products or at least three years of relevant experience.
● Proven experience as a Sail Maker, with expertise in yacht sail repairs and manufacture of new sails in Australia or overseas.
● Proficient in producing patterns and working with technical drawings and designs.
● Strong knowledge of materials used in sail making.
● Experience operating industrial sewing machines.
● Attention to detail and high level of craftsmanship.
● Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
● Excellent communication skills.
● Full-time availability and commitment to a minimum employment term of 2 years
