The role
The Food & Pharmaceutical Division operates a modern laboratory in Melbourne (Scoresby) that is equipped with the latest in analytical technology.  The division is seeking a casual Sample Preparer/Laboratory Assistant to become part of a growing Chemistry team.
  
This fast-paced role will require you to work quicky and accurately to weigh, measure and check paperwork of food samples that are delivered to the Laboratory. After weighing and checking, you will need to blend food samples in the kitchen, ready for our Scientists to test. This role requires you to be comfortable working with meat products, nuts and other allergen containing foods on a daily basis.
  
To succeed in the role, ideally, you’ve worked in a repetitive processing or sorting environment and can work quickly and accurately for the duration of your shift.
  
The casual hourly rate for this role is $34.92, and the required shifts are most Wednesday’s, between 9am and 5.15pm and a half day predominately Fridays, with more ad hoc shifts as required, between 9am-5.15pm Mon-Fri.
  
The day to day

  • Managing and preparing food samples in a timely manner.
  • Blending food samples, including meat products and nuts to be tested
  • Minor routine laboratory analysis (we will train you to conduct this analysis)
  • General housekeeping including but not limited to:
  • - Cleaning laboratory equipment (washing equipment, mopping, wiping benches)
  • - Assisting in maintaining the sample levels in the storage area
  • Assisting the sample receipt team in logging in samples when required.

  • Be willing to work a reasonable amount of overtime when required.
