Purpose of the Role:
As a trainee, you will be required to learn the tasks of the role in a paced and supportive health environment. Working under supervision, you will gain skills and experience aligned to a Clinical Assistant in a hospital environment across professions such as Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation, Podiatry and more. Once competency of a task is achieved, the trainee may be assessed to work independently.
About the Unit/Service Line:
Allied Health professionals partner with adults, children and their families, to contribute to the diagnosis, management and therapy of illness or injury promoting optimal recovery and maximising health and independent well-being. Allied Health uses strategies of individualised care planning, patient-centred goal directed rehabilitation, self-management of chronic disease and the application of evidence-based interventions
Key Duties and Accountabilities:
Fulfill the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Queensland Public Service, the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (GCHHS) values under supervision and direction
- Coordinate the ordering of Australia Post Mail i.e, express, registered envelopes and labels to be purchased by the various departments
- Assist to perform a wide range of delegated intervention and clinical support activities including individual and group work, as prescribed by the therapist and report back to Occupational Therapy/relevant staff on the outcome of these activities
- Identify and implement changes to the intervention and treatment programs following consultation with the treating/referring therapist.
- Actively engage in maintaining annual competencies associated with clinical support and delegated models of care.
- May be required to assist Occupational Therapist’s in specialist interventions- e.g. compression, fabrication of splints or other assistive devices, telehealth/phone clinics and some sewing may be required
- Work as a member of both the Occupational Therapy department and the multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to patient records according to organisational guidelines and legal requirements.
- Maintain stock of clinical consumables and follow workplace guidelines (i.e. stocktake, ordering and receipting of goods through S4HANA, knowledge of the IMPREST system, liaising with external suppliers and other departments)
- Maintain designated facilities ready for treatment sessions including adhering to infection control procedures, (e.g. performing regular and timely equipment/maintenance checks and cleaning) and reporting any issues to senior staff
- Supporting non-clinical duties that contribute to the smooth daily running of the Occupational Therapy department (e.g. room bookings, photocopying, food safety and fridge maintenance) and active engagement at relevant staff meetings and other forums for the purpose of information sharing and education.
- Undertake ongoing training and developmental activities in line with your professional development plan and the competencies (required annually) of the role (e.g. In-service, mandatory training)
- Assist in prioritising clinical and non-clinical duties including the effective and efficient planning and organisation of a caseload and operational tasks, inclusive of relevant data maintenance.

- It is a condition of employment in this role for new employees to GCHHS to undertake a tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required in accordance with the Queensland Health Protocol
