Position: School Chaplain
Commencing Date: As soon as possible
Hourly Rate: $37.20 - $39.01 per hour pending experience
Tenure: Term Time, Fixed Term

offers Prep to Year 6 in a Catholic co-educational environment. Located in Ingham in the Hinchinbrook Shire, the school was established over one hundred years ago by the Sisters of Mercy in 1915 who continued to have a strong involvement in the school for many decades. Today the school is administered by a lay principal and staff however the Mercy tradition and charism remain strong in the school’s culture and community.

Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School is a strong community that is proudly supported by the parish and parents. The school is IT-driven with an emphasis on embedding technology into the pedagogy. About the role
Our Lady of Lourdes, Primary School, Ingham is seeking an experienced and dedicated School Chaplain. This role is a term time, fixed term position working 12 hours per week across 2 days for the duration of the 2024 school year.
The Chaplain works to create opportunities for faith development of students and advance the religious life of the school community. The Chaplain will foster the experience of Catholic community within the school and engage the community in social justice and social action. The Chaplain encourages and facilitates connections with Church/faith communities and agencies.
Key Accountabilities
The Chaplain will represent the school in a professional, warm, friendly and efficient manner. Duties include:

  • Provide pastoral and spiritual support to students:
  • Engage students in opportunities for faith development:
  • Advance the religious life of the school community:
  • Foster the experience of Catholic community within the school:
  • Engage the school community in social justice and social action:
  • Encourage and facilitate connections with church/faith communities and agencies:
  • Undertake ongoing professional learning:
  • Participate in TCE facilitated programs for professional learning
  • Contribute to local cluster gatherings of Chaplains.
  • Generalist administration support
Mandatory Criteria
  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government.
  • Qualification (or commitment to obtain) Certificate IV in Youth Work, Chaplaincy or Pastoral Care or equivalent or higher qualification – this qualification must include competencies in ‘making appropriate referrals’ and mental heath
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
