About the Role
Newington College is currently seeking a permanent part-time School Counsellor/Psychologist for our Stanmore Secondary Campus. The position is available for an immediate start, though negotiations regarding the commencement can be discussed with successful candidates.
The school counselor role is multifaceted and pivotal in ensuring the holistic well-being of students, staff and wider community within the College. Central to this role is addressing and assisting with a spectrum of challenges that students may encounter and offering confidential support tailored to each student's needs, which may include assessment, counselling intervention, and consultation. Collaboration is also key, the School Counsellor is expected to work closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to develop intervention strategies, facilitate communication, and ensure a coordinated approach to student support. Additionally, the School Counsellor promotes preventative programs from wellbeing awareness to coping strategies and interventions. Through ongoing assessment, advocacy efforts, and professional development, the School Counsellor strives to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
This position is a part-time (0.5 FTE) permanent position commencing as soon as possible that is required to work 41 weeks per year which is a combination of 38 term-time weeks and three weeks of non-term time to be worked flexibly during school holiday in agreeance with the Head of Counselling.

About You We have deliberately not provided set and narrow selection criteria. However, it would be expected that the successful candidate will:
- have counselling and psychology qualifications and professional experience that enables registration with AHPRA and full registration with APS
- have experience providing Counselling support and contributing to pastoral care programs in a school setting
- be able to provide assessment, counselling, and consultancy as appropriate to the College Executive and Critical Incident Team
- have highly developed organisational skills
- have highly developed organisational and interpersonal skills
- be a team player and have exceptional communication skills
- have a willingness to participate in co-curricular activities if required
- have proficiency in the use of industry-standard psychometric assessments such as WISC IV
- have Child Protection investigation skills and willingness to obtain accreditation if required
- have experience in the use of industry-standard psychometric assessments such as the WISC-V and WIAT-III
- understand and adhere to the College’s Child Safeguarding policies and practices
- contribute to the continuous improvement of child safeguarding at Newington.
