Appointment Pool

Gosnells Primary School (GPS) is seeking to establish a pool of School Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.

As School Officer you will be the first point of contact for our school and will be responsible for providing accurate advice and support to parents, students, staff, and community members using your excellent communication skills.

The School Officer undertakes reception duties including greeting visitors, answering the telephone, and responding to routine enquiries and requests for information.  You will also provide general clerical and administrative support including preparing correspondence, newsletters, notices, and other materials. You will also distribute and collect documents, forms, mail and money in accordance with Departmental Policies and Procedures.

The School Officer assists the Manager Corporate Services with the induction and training of school support staff and recruitment processes, assist with the maintenance of school facilities, assets and resources, including reporting faults, organising repairs, assisting with stock takes and updating the asset and resources registers. In addition, the School Officer inputs data and generates routine reports and other documents from school databases.

The successful applicant should display a focus on team work, self-motivation, initiative and model excellence in customer and administrative support service delivery. They should have strong organisational skills and be able to deliver outcomes while working to deadlines in a sometimes fast paced environment.

Ideally, suitable applicants will possess experience in using Schools Information Systems, Administration, Billing, MS Office suite of programs and website experience. A focus on teamwork, self-motivation, initiative, excellence in customer service delivery and administrative support is highly desirable. The ability to work under supervision or independently is also desirable.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Experience in providing general office administrative support with ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care. Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
