The John Berne School is an Independent Catholic special school in the Marist tradition. We are a small co-ed school (approximately 45 students) and cater to students in Years 7-10 with a history of trauma, mental health challenges, neurodivergence, and learning challenges. Student well-being is a key focus of The John Berne School program. The current advertised position is to join our current 3 School Psychologists. Essential Criteria
- An understanding of adolescent development and trauma informed care
- Skills in assessment, formulation, and intervention for young people with developmental, cognitive, social or emotional challenges (e.g., mild intellectual disabilities, learning difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, ODD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, complex trauma etc).
- The ability to support students with attendance issues, safety concerns, and behavioural challenges through collaborative planning.
- Have the ability to liaise with and work collaboratively (e.g., with teachers, other professionals).
- Have excellent organisational, communication, and information technology skills.
- Hold current registration with either the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Australian Psychological Society (APS), Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
- Registered Psychologist / Clinical Psychologist/ Educational and Developmental Psychologist or Social Worker
- Experience working within a Positive Psychology and Trauma informed framework
- Experience with family therapy / systemic approaches
- Experience in conducting group work
- Experience in conducting cognitive and/or educational assessments /reports
- Current knowledge of the NSW education system
The successful applicant will maintain close communication with the families of students, as well as the School Support Team, Leadership Team and teachers.
Applicants would need to have a willingness to become fully involved in all aspects of school life, including excursions, camps, and other programs. Preferred applicants will support the ethos of the school’s Catholic and Marist foundations.
