Mater Pathology is currently seeking the skills and expertise of a Scientists to work in a permanent, full-time role in our Chemical Pathology Department located at our South Brisbane campus.
The purpose of the role is to deliver a high quality and cost effective Chemical Pathology diagnostic service on behalf of Mater Pathology, supplying operational direction utilising contemporary technology and best practise standards for clinicians and their patients.
Mater Pathology is already preparing for a new laboratory information system which will modernise the current services and provides another exciting opportunity for the successful candidate.
The role requires working independently as a sole scientist on ‘after hours’ and weekend shifts and participating in a 24hour roster (after a suitable training period- dependent on experience)
Salary range: $40.65 - $54.43 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
This position requires a high level of scientific knowledge, skills and an appropriate level of experience to provide operational support for routine and complex testing within Chemical Pathology and participate in the daily workflow of the rostered work area team. Some of your duties will include but not limited to:
- Providing reliable complete reports
- Demonstrating responsible actions relating to the significance of results
- Undertaking appropriate action in processing results authorisation as appropriate and notification of critical results according to Mater Pathology protocols
- Working in conjunction with the Chemical Pathology Senior Scientists and Supervising Scientists to ensure compliance to the Clinical Governance framework and other accredited bodies.
- Providing high level problem solving skills and solutions
- Utilising scientific and professional judgement in all aspects of decision making
- Applying a sound level of scientific knowledge and participation in clinical trials and research as required.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess the following skills and experience:
- Prior experience in a similar role in Chemical Pathology is highly desirable although new graduates are welcome to apply
- A Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science or Bachelor of Science majoring in Chemical Pathology/Clinical Chemistry
- Applicable Memberships and/or Fellowships of Professional Bodies relevant to Chemical Pathology would be considered highly desirable
