Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology services the Brisbane metropolitan area and regional areas extending as far north as Cairns and south to Coffs Harbour.

About the Opportunity

Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology is seeking Medical Laboratory Scientists to work full-time in the HPLC/LC-MS/MS section of their Biochemistry department, based in Bowen Hills. The Biochemistry Department is one of the largest private biochemistry departments in Australia and prides itself on quality and service excellence. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting HPLC and LC-MS/MS instruments, as well as pipetting robots.
  • Manually pipetting and preparing samples for analysis.
  • Analysing peaks and reporting patient results for vitamins, therapeutic drugs, steroid hormones, and biogenic amines.
  • Adhering to departmental quality system procedures to uphold laboratory standards in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation requirements.
  • Following standard operating procedures and occupational health and safety policies to ensure the health and safety of everyone in the workplace.
  • Working cooperatively with colleagues, referrers, and their patients to assist in the provision of reliable and efficient services.

Key capabilities include:

  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise in medical laboratory science, particularly HPLC, LC-MS/MS principles, and the clinical interpretation of vitamins, therapeutic drugs, steroid hormones, and biogenic amines.
  • High attention to detail and excellent organisational skills, enabling you to effectively prioritize your workload and work accurately and efficiently while unsupervised.
  • Flexibility to cover all rostered shifts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in teams.
  • Initiative and enthusiasm to take on extra duties within the laboratory.
  • Ability to follow procedures and policies as stated above.

The section currently operates from 7:00 am to 12:00 am Monday to Friday and from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday. As the section is rapidly growing, we will need to extend our operational hours in the near future.

To be successful in this role, you must have a Bachelor of Science degree or an equivalent qualification. While not essential, previous experience working in pathology, particularly in biochemistry, will be highly regarded.
