About Us:
Second Nature Conservancy Inc. is a non-profit, non-government organisation dedicated to restoring biodiversity and sustainably managing natural resources. Our field crew carry out a number of environmental management tasks including revegetation, weed control and site maintenance.
We have a busy tree planting season ahead and are looking for fit and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for nature to join our team immediately. Successful candidates may also be included in a casual pool for peak periods.
Position Overview:
These casual positions are based out of Strathalbyn and primarily focus on meeting our seasonal planting needs. For the right candidates with a broad range of native vegetation management skills, there may be future opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform physical work in various challenging environments (weather, steep terrain, remote locations)
- Achieve high production targets with minimal supervision
- Identify native plant species and local vegetation communities
- Identify pasture and weed species
- Communicate effectively and maintain accurate documentation
- Work collaboratively within a team
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:
- Shared values in restoring and protecting the local environment
- Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence, with skills and experience in 4WD operation (including trailers)
- Strong work ethic, communication and teamwork skills
Highly Regarded Skills:
- Pest Management Technician’s Licence (Control of Weeds)
- Certifications in chemical handling: AHCCHM307 - Prepare and apply chemicals, AHCCHM304 - Transport and store chemicals, AHCPMG301 - Control weeds
- Proficiency with power equipment such as chainsaws, brush cutters, and petrol augers
- Experience installing rural fencing
- Experience operating plant and equipment, including tractors, skid steer, and seeding machines
- Maintenance skills for plant and equipment
- Nursery propagation skills and experience
- Qualifications in Conservation and Land Management
